How to get to Vlkolínec:
The village Vlkolínec is located on the south foot of the hill Sidorovo and is part of the city of Ružomberok, the distance from which is about 10 km. You can get there by a narrow road through a city district called Biely Potok. From the resort Gothal in Liptovská Osada, the driving time is approximately 15 minutes.
What will you find here?
Originally a settlement of woodcutters, shepherds and farmers, today, it attracts tourists from the area thanks to its unique folk architecture. Altogether, it offers 73 objects, mostly cottages, which are on the UNESCO list.
In addition to log cabins with barns and stables, you should also visit the two story log bell tower from the 18th century and stone Baroque-Classicist Roman Catholic church of Visitation of the Virgin Mary.
There is also a museum in the village – Peasant house with an exhibition about historic living and the use of tools in the household and agriculture. The building of the former school, now used as a Gallery of Folk art, is also interesting and currently contains an exhibit of art pieces and hunting trophies.
Furthermore, if you plan your trip to Vlkolínec in advance according to the museum program, you will be able to watch weaving on a loom, crocheting or the work of a tinker.
For sports fans, we recommend combining the visit to Vlkolínec with biking. A bike path goes through this village, which is part of the National Park of Veľká Fatra. It runs from the city of Ružomberok to Jazierce and offers nice views of Choč Mountains, as well as Západné, Vysoké and Nízke Tatry.
