How to get to Demänovská caves:
Demänovská cave system is located in the beautiful National Park Nízke Tatry in Demänovská valley, only 13 kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš. The entrances to the Demänovská Cave of Liberty and Demänovská Ice Cave are located on the right side of the valley, in valley Točište and in reef Bašta respectively. You can get here by car from Gothal resort in Liptovská Osada in approximately 40 minutes.

Demänovská cave system, which consists of ten caves, is currently the longest connected karst system in Slovakia and is declared a National Natural Landmark. Two of the most significant caves are accessible to public: Demänovská Cave of Liberty and Demänovská Ice Cave.
It is Demänovská Cave of Liberty, which is the most visited in Slovakia and one of the most beautiful accessible caves in Europe. Its entrance opening, which lies at an altitude of 870 meters, can be reached comfortably by an educational trail.
Before entering, you can choose from two routes. For families, we recommend the hour long Traditional route, which 1,2 km long. There are 913 stairs awaiting you on the route. The Large route, which is 2,2 km long, will take 100 minutes and you will get through 1 118 stairs.
The cave has an interesting system of corridors, underground halls, domes and rich dripstone decorations, which will captivate you. In addition to stalagmite, stalactite and magnificent rock waterfalls, there are small lakes with dripstone water-lilies on the surface or cave pearls. If you pay attention, you will also notice dripstones colored in shades of pink and red or the underground current of Demänovka.
The second cave open to public is Demänovská ice cave. It is noteworthy especially for its permanent ice, bizarre and massive shapes of underground spaces and rare cave fauna.
The most beautiful ice shapes happen in the spring, when water from the melting snow enters the cave, which freezes instantly and creates large pillars and ground ice. All of this underground beauty can be enjoyed during a tour route, which is 650 m long and takes 45 minutes.
